Upcoming Graduation & New Portfolio

Oct 30, 2015//Life, Web Development

I’m graduating with a BS in Information Technology at the University of Central Florida in a couple months, so it’s about time that I re-vamp the portfolio, go full WordPress, and show off some of the stuff I’ve done the past couple years.

UCF & The Marching Knights

First of all, I’m excited to get that diploma. It is not far from reach, but I might as well state the obvious since it has been a tedious but rewarding road. My (long) time at UCF has been awesome. I’ve gained practical IT systems admin, networking, support, and programming knowlege and experience from some great professors, got hooked up with a great internship in the Central Florida Research Park (thank you Experiential Learning!), and I’ve been involved with the most spectacular, rewarding, and high-spirited student organization in existence: The UCF Marching Knights.

This season is my *cough*9th*cough* year in marching band. The places we went – whether it was a high school band trip, UCF regular or post-season football game (Fiesta Bowl! 😀 ) – have been the highlights of my life. Doing what you love, with the people you love, and for the people you love in the name of entertainment, music, and spirit is the greatest thing in the world. Receiving the Troy Driggers Memorial Scholarship Award in 2013 was an extraordinary honor that I’m still trying to earn today. Troy and the others that have received the scholarship are my role models, and I will never forget what they taught me about being dedicated to something much greater than one’s self.

I’m going to miss being among the ranks of the #SwordOfBlack and the #SoundOfGold. I still have no idea how I’ll deal with it besides attending events and alumni band, but I guess time will tell.

So Here’s My Goal

I want to do web development & design; specifically for WordPress, but I’m open to anything that will make me a better developer and contribute something to the amazing community of devs and designers that make the web what it is – where everyone does practically everything. I’d still like to keep the IT skills honed (not that they’re going anywhere), so anyone who wants to pick me up may feel free to utilize them – I really just want to help out with whatever I can. Let me know if I can help you.

Band-Specific WordPress Stuff

If you haven’t already noticed, I like band have a decent amount of experience with organizations like those. I’d like to build the functionality of the UCF Bands website into a plugin that any band can use to help communicate with current or prospective members and/or their families. The plugin is still in the works, but if you’re a band director or know a band director that wants cool and useful stuff on their program’s site, give me a shout. The ultimate goal is to make a living by combining two of the things I love: band and web development.

Take A Look Around

If you’re interested, feel free to see the types of work I do, a couple examples (more to come), or get in touch with me.

Just wanted to tell you how impressed I am with your writing and web designs.
And when you’re rich and famous, I’ll be able to say I knew him as a wildly talented young man.
